SOHIO
Prudhoe Bay, AK
SGH was the structural engineer for several SOHIO buildings including office, housing, recreation, and service facilities. The project required the selection of construction materials and development of design specifications suitable to assure durability in the harsh arctic environment. The buildings are prefabricated super-modules (weighing up to 800 tons), constructed on the continental west coast and shipped by barge and crawler rig to the site. Spaceframe roofs enclose certain specialized functions, such as an athletic center and the sewage treatment facilities. The buildings are supported on structural steel spaceframe utility structures, which transfer building column loads to the support piles.
